The semaphore watches
Built in 1861, it monitored the passage of ships offshore. Its signals alerted them to danger. He called the emergency services if necessary. Meteorological observations were also made there, useful to ships and the national meteorological service. Purchased in 2000 by the Department, the semaphore ensures its surveillance activity in the summer. From June to September, the ground floor is transformed into an exhibition space, frequented by hundreds of visitors each year.
witness of war
During the Second World War, the Germans built a large network of blockhouses on the Pointe du Grouin. They are now home to the Greater Horseshoe Bat, a species of bat that is protected because it is threatened. The moors and lawns of Grouin are typical of the rocky coast of Brittany. The vegetation there is very special. She had to adapt to the difficult living conditions of the coast.
