eco-counters tell us about the hike

Bicycle and hiking are in fashion for the discovery of the Destination and the eco-counters inform us about these 2 great modes of tourist travel. Our Destination is lucky to be crossed by 2 Greenways: the Vélomaritime – EuroVélo 4, along the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel and the V42 which connects Saint-Malo to Arzal, through the canal of Ille-et-Rance. These two dedicated routes (except from St-Méloir des Ondes to Saint-Malo) allow our holidaymakers, visitors and inhabitants to criss-cross the territory and discover our treasures. Eco-counters are installed on these routes in order to observe the number of visitors throughout the year, according to the type of practice: cycling or walking. On the Vélomaritime in 2022, the first assessment on the period from May to July indicates a cumulative attendance of 178,634 passages, a progression of more than 31% compared to 2021 (135,816 passages). Pedestrians represent 78% of users, but their number is down compared to 2021 when they represented more than 86% of users. It is indeed the practice of cycling that progresses the most on this route with an increase in passages from 18,185 in 2021 to 39,541 in 2022.Regarding the V42, we observe a frequentation of 112,675 passages, which is an increase of 19% compared to 2021 (99,145 passages). In contrast to the Vélomaritime, it is the practice of cycling that is in the majority with 62% of passages, an increase of 2% compared to 2021.These data show the importance and attractiveness of soft mobility and commit us to continue the qualification and development of the offer on the Destination.Note that these major routes are connected to a set of bike loops and hiking tours to discover on our website:
